Title: Fluidus Rising (Ardere Series #1)
Author: Margo Ryerkerk
Genre: YA Paranormal
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Torn away from her high school graduation, Sierra Reeves discovers that everything she thought she knew is a lie.
In a flash, she’s no longer a normal girl preparing for college, but a Fluidus—a rare supernatural with telekinetic powers. Her new abilities attract the attention of both the Ardere regency and the Culpatus, a group that wants to overthrow the supernatural government. Fearful for Sierra’s future, her grandmother decides to leave their home state Vermont and hide out in Savannah, Georgia.
In Savannah, Sierra forms an alliance with the overprotective and handsome Ardere marshal Gavin McLoughlin. With his help, she slowly accepts her new powers and that she’s a part of the supernatural community.
Just when Sierra begins to settle into her new life, her world is rocked again. In addition to the Culpatus discovering her location, a serial killer is on the loose in Savannah.
Fighting to control her developing power, and facing danger on multiple fronts, Sierra will have to use all her resources to stay alive.
Alright, alright.. So, I know I’ve been waxing poetic lately about how much I love good old fashioned vampires and werewolves in YA, but these unique stories have been blowing my mind lately. With the YA paranormal genre being a bit dominated by fae right now (not that I particularly mind!), something new and fresh is always exciting. Margo Ryerkerk has crafted a world with new types of paranormals with unique abilities, and I’m here for it.
Sierra was an awesome character to read about, and I loved watching her grow into her powers, and into herself in general. This girl goes through some serious crap throughout the story, and I found myself rooting for her all along the way. Gavin is also fun to read about, even if he’s a little (a lot) rough around the edges. I have to say my favorite character was Sierra’s Gran. She’s basically the grandma that everyone wants, full of wisdom and general badassery.
With a unique concept and characters that you’ll get totally invested in, Fluidus Rising is an awesome read if you’re looking for some paranormal in your life. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Sounds interesting, might have to check it out
