Title: Soulmated (Joining of Souls #1)

Author: Shaila Patel

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

Publication Date: January 24, 2017

My Rating: 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Eighteen-year-old Liam Whelan, an Irish royal empath, has been searching for his elusive soulmate. The rare union will cement his family’s standing in empath politics and afford the couple legendary powers, while also making them targets of those seeking to oust them.

Laxshmi Kapadia, an Indian-American high school student from a traditional family, faces her mother’s ultimatum: Graduate early and go to medical school, or commit to an arranged marriage.

When Liam moves next door to Laxshmi, he’s immediately and inexplicably drawn to her. In Liam, Laxshmi envisions a future with the freedom to follow her heart.

Liam’s father isn’t convinced Laxshmi is “The One” and Laxshmi’s mother won’t even let her talk to their handsome new neighbor. Will Liam and Laxshmi defy expectations and embrace a shared destiny? Or is the risk of choosing one’s own fate too great a price for the soulmated?

I came for the curiosity about empaths (seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever read about empaths before), and I stayed for the swoony romance, well written, diverse characters, and amazing writing.

I can’t say too much about Soulmated without starting to gush and accidentally spoiling literally everything, but I will say if you’re into humor and wit with your romance, you’ll totally dig this book. Throw in the fact that Lucky and Liam have blazing hot chemistry between them and you’ll fly right through this book like I did.

We’re shown a few different types of family dynamics, and they all feel authentic because of how well written and complex each character is. Shaila Patel did an awesome job of giving everyone their own personality and feel, and really letting them come to life as their own people.

Trust me when I say that you want to pick this one up. I gave it 5 stars!

    1. Isn’t this cover beautiful?!

My biggest tip is to network, and be active in the community. There’s a decent sized community over on twitter, and you can come across so many opportunities, whether it’s review opportunities or just a chance to connect with an author. Other than that, I’d say be careful not to overload yourself with books you feel like you “need” to read, because if you’re anything like me, it’ll start to make blogging less enjoyable.

I checked out your blog and I’m really impressed. I really loved the way that your posts were formatted and just the overall feel of your blog. Your reviews were really helpful and decently in depth. You’ve got yourself a new follower! 🙂
