Title: The Blood of the Hydra (Elementals #2)
Author: Michelle Madow
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: April 18, 2016
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
I received this book through NetGalley.
Finding out that she was a witch was strange enough, but now Nicole must face the realization that she has the rare power to kill with just a touch. No one can know her secret — not even Blake, who she’s had undeniable chemistry with since first moving to town.
Now Nicole, Blake, and the three others with elemental powers must stop a series of monsters that they previously believed to be dead from rising once again and destroying the mortal world. The creatures they face on this journey will be more dangerous than anything they’ve encountered yet. Will they all survive the quest? And how long will it be until Nicole is forced to use her ability to kill in front of everyone, revealing the true darkness of her powers?
In case you missed my review of the first book in this series, The Prophecy of Shadows, you can read it here!
I thought that this sequel was a solid and wildly entertaining followup to the first book. One thing I’ve found about Michelle Madow’s writing is that she’s able to easily create stories that just feel fun and exciting, and that’s exactly what you see here with The Bloof of the Hydra. Without giving away any major spoilers, this second installment follows Nicole and her friends on a WILD journey to exotic places, in order to, ya know, save the mortal world. No pressure, guys. 😉
Nicole is forced to make some seriously difficult decisions in this book, and then has to live with the repercussions of those choices, however rough those repercussions may be. Once again, I don’t want to spoil anyone, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how Nicole will be able to deal with the aftermath of an event at the end of the book! I think her character has grown quite a bit, and has developed a confidence in her powers that she certainly didn’t have at first.
I’m dying to get my hands on the third installment of this series, as there are some relationships made and broken in this book, and I NEED to know what happens. Five out of five stars from me!
