Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author: Laini Taylor
Genre: YA Fantasy
Number of Pages: 418
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
“Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.
When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?”
My Review: I’m going to start off by saying thank you to all of the bloggers that suggested I pick this one back up. I had tried to read it before, and I think I just got overloaded by information and put it down. Needless to say, I didn’t pick it back up again until the other day.
WHY DID I NOT LIKE THIS BEFORE???
This world is AMAZING. Honestly, it’s so well crafted. I loved this book this time around. I found myself chuckling at Karou’s witty comments and even swooning over Akiva, when I found him to be a little flat the first time around.
I will say that there is A LOT of information to take in when reading this book. The world is very complex, and it’s overwhelming at times. I think that’s probably why I just had to put it down the first time. With that said, I found myself loving this title the second time around. I would give it five out of five stars, but I think that the information overload might be too much for a lot of readers. That lands my rating at a solid four out of five stars!
Thanks for the clear info. I have some sort of focus issue and would probably get discouraged by this book. It’s useful to know that it’s not an easy read.
