Genre: YA Fantasy
Number of Pages: 320
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
“The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?”
My Review:
Alright guys, this review is going to be a tad bit different from my other reviews. Normally, my reviews are strictly spoiler free. This time, I’m going have to break this review up into two sections. I NEED to discuss my feelings about this book in an unrestrained way! I will mark the beginning of the spoiler section, so please be on the lookout so you don’t get accidentally spoiled!
The spoiler free version of my feelings can be summed up in a few words: HOLY. CRAP. YEEESSSSSSSS. This book was truly amazing.
I mean, my feelings are perfectly described by this cat:
The world building was fantastic, and the characters were seriously great. I felt like each of the main characters were very complex. The action was perfect. I felt like I was right there, watching the characters fight. The Silvers have some crazy cool powers, and I’m kind of jealous.
This book has some CRAZY plot twists and it’s overflowing with political games and betrayals.
With that said…
THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE SPOILER SECTION. IF YOU HAVE YET TO READ THIS BOOK, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!!
Guys… That plot twist basically killed me. Funny story about the plot twist, actually. I went through most of the book thinking that the “big betrayal” was when Maven joined up with the Scarlet Guard. I was a little let down at that idea, but I soldiered on. WHEN FREAKING MAVEN TURNED ON MARE OH MY GOD I SCREAMED. I was not expecting that. At all. I literally yelled “OH HELL NO!” and I’m pretty sure my face had to be priceless.. I actually freaking liked Maven. This really throws a wrench in my ships, because I totally was fine with Mare and Maven being together. I don’t even like any of the other love interests very much. I’m hoping the second book in the series really helps me to move on, because my heart is basically as broken as Mare’s with that betrayal.. Obviously, I’m awarding this title with a five out of five star rating. Loved. It.
Awesome review! It’s next on my list to read and I know it’s been getting some mixed reviews, so I’m happy to hear how much you liked it š And I love your gifs!

Ugh! I know what you mean. I kept hoping that Maven’s betrayal was all just a farce; he’ll turn back to Mare (and the rebellion’s side) right before the story ends, but NO, he betrayed her and Cal š¦ Speaking of Cal, I felt really bad for him–I mean, he was forced to kill his father. I was just like WHY??? I can’t wait till the next book comes out!

I know! I was basically heartbroken. š¦ I hope something happens in the next book and Maven magically comes back to his senses.. Like maybe someone was controlling him.. I don’t know. Lol. I’m obviously in denial!

Maybe his mother was controlling his mind. Considering he’s a prince, and he’s supposed to love and trust her, that would be pretty easy for her to do, right?

Hopefully it’s something like that!
