Book Shelf Tour-March 2015

I’m sorry this one took roughly 6.2 million years guys. As chronicled in a few earlier posts, I was having some technical difficulties. What counts is that I have FINALLY got on the ball and I’m getting this post up. While this is going to be mostly a shelf tour, I am going to talk about my organization methods as well.

First off, as I’m writing this, my shelves are clocking in at 385 books, give or take probably five. To keep track of my books, I use an app on my phone called Book Butler. I can scan all of my books in, and carry around a list, ensuring I don’t buy two copies of a book due to forgetting I own it. I know there are quite a few similar apps out there, both for Android (which I have) and for iPhone. Since downloading this app, I’ve made a habit of scanning books before I shelve them. So far, I haven’t had any trouble.

If anyone is wondering, my shelves and the rug you may see poking out in my pictures are all from Walmart. I know, I’m really extravagant. I think that I paid around twenty or thirty dollars for each shelf, but don’t quote me on it. I have three posters back behind my shelves. Two are movie posters that I purchased from a garage sale. They’re actually from a theater. I have the posters for Beastly and Jane Eyre. The third poster is one I received when I pre-ordered Talon by Julie Kagawa. I have a few odds and ends on top of my shelves, mostly stuffed animals. I do keep my book repair kit on top of a shelf (remember, I’m a library student), and it stays there unless I need it.

I’m going to take a moment and forewarn you guys: my shelves are a bit of a mess. For one, I don’t care if my series are mismatched. I have a few series that are all hardcover or paperback, but not many. I know a lot of people are very strict about this, but it just doesn’t bother me. Second of all, while my books are mostly alphabetized by author last name, there are a few discrepancies that were necessary to keep certain series together on one shelf. Lastly, you’ll see in my photos that I have some books sitting on top of the books on the shelves. I recently ran out of room on my shelves, and I honestly have just started popping new books on top of whatever shelf they would go on if they were shelved correctly. I’ve decided to forgo photos of my individual shelves, and I’ve just photographed each individual shelf as a whole. I’m also going to be marking which books I’ve read, and which books I haven’t. It’s a disturbing ratio, trust me. I’ll be marking books that I’ve read with an asterisk (*).

Okay, I think I’ve covered all of my bases. I think it’s time to get to the actual tour. I’ve numbered my shelves from one to three, and I’ll be starting with the one furthest to the left. You might want to make some popcorn or something, because this post is going to be quite a long one.

Holy crap, I thought that post would never end. If you’re still here and reading this, you honestly deserve a medal. With that said, thank you for taking the time to browse through my collection. I wish I would have had more good pictures, but I feel like the post is so large already that it would just be overkill. So, what do you guys think of my collection? Do I have any of your favorites? What books should I purchase next?

    1. Thank you. This post took hours to put together.. And in regards to my asterisks, I’ve honestly never done the math either.. I’m going to say about 50% is indeed correct. Maybe I’ll calculate it when I’m bored one day. Lol.

  1. Oh, hey, I got bored and did the math. I copied and pasted this to a MSWord doc, and searched for asterisks–173. Then I searched for the word “by” and got 373. So you have read 46% of your books, as of this post. You have not read 54%. Wow, I eyed it pretty well with my guesstimation of 50%!!!
